July & August have already passed. And most of the time, summer is my absolute favorite. Not this year. I am glad that those months are good and gone. Maybe I changing and summer will no longer be my favorite season. Maybe the heat is getting to me. Maybe I am getting old and crotchity. Or maybe it is the fact that it has been warm/hot in Bakersfield since last March. And this has seemed like the never-ending summer.
Ir-irregarless.
I will tell you about the July/August haps.
Ir-irregardless.
{Jayson and I have this long-time running inside joke about that word. Irregardless is a nonsense word. Like a double negative. Think abut it. It really doesn't make sense and has no place in our language. Just use 'regardless.' So, just to make it more poposturous, we add an extra ir-. We are clever.}
1. We bought some new furniture. Well, not new. But new to us. New credenza.
2. New dresser.
3. We spray painted an old lamp and set the scene.

4. Kaylah hosted an Opening Ceremony Party for the Olympics. Great time. Great friend. I really got into the Olympics and loved watching the beach volleyball and gymnastics. Still touched that the woman's gymnastics team got gold. Oh, and Misty May & Carrie Walsh. Gold. I cried. No joke. Patriotic spirit, what can I say.
5. The next day, Jay and I took a day trip to Ventura. Rosie's first beach adventure.
6. We had a great day. It was hilarious to watch Rosie running around in the waves. She did get taken out by a couple of waves but I think she loved it.
7. I took my own personal kayaking adventure. My arms were exhausted and I am never doing it again. I need a passenger to help with the load.
8. Rosie got to ride in a dinghy. Day of firsts. It was fun. We rode the dinghy to dinner. Mexican food. Rosie laid on the patio. Loved that whole day.
9. August came. Zindi turned 55. She made lots of barfing sounds when we would say her age. Apparently, the thought of being 55 makes her want to barf. And she apparently doesn't act 55. But we already knew that.
10. I took a short weekend trip to Temecula to see my girl, Lauren. It was SO good to see her. Did I mention she is getting married? Well, she is. June 15th. So excited for her, the life she is beginning with Scott, and the fact that I get to share in the joy. Truly thankful. She showed me around the winery where the wedding will be held. It was AMAZING. So beautiful.
We did a wine sampling while we were there and talked. It was great fun. Relaxing.
11. The thing about Lauren is that we don't talk all the time. We sometimes go months without talking. And I think that is ok. I know that the next time I see her, she will still be the same person. We can just pick up and not worry about the long stretches of in-between times. It is always just great to catch up with her in person and make some memories together. Lauren, I hope you agree.
12. Lauren's parents had recently returned from a trip to Italy, where they learned to make homemade pasta. They taught me. IT WAS SO FUN. That day, I don't know how many times, I said, "I have got to get a kitchenaid mixer/pasta attachment." And I still want one. Um, Christmas?
And let's not forget the bruschetta they made. That stuff was heavenly. They had a bottle of aged basalmic vinegar that was more like a syrup. It got drizzled over the bruschetta. I have to stop talking about it now.
13. I caught Rosie sleeping like a little hamster. She just keeps getting weirder.
